37. Malaysia @ Johor Bahru

Markus wanted to stay another night in Singapore. He wanted to go out with a friend. Due to Carina not being very keen on going out with the two boys in a very expensive city or stay in a very expensive capsel all night alone, she went a day earlier than Markus to the mainland of Malaysia. Here she stayed in a cheaper and much nicer hotel with pool and own bathroom.

Singapore and the city of Johor Bahru are very close to  each other.

The travel is easy. Take a bus to the border. Do the immigration formalities and take the same bus further to the center of Johor Bahru. It was not that easy in practice, but

that was only the beauty of it!

The mainland of Malaysia and the surrounding islands is 131,598 km2. The peninsula border Thailand to the north and Singapore to the south. west after crossing the Strait of Malacca lies Sumatra and to the east after crossing the South China Sea lies Borneo.

Roughly 80% or about 24 million people of Malaysia's population lives on the Peninsula. The rest on Borneo.

Johor Bahru is the capital city of Southern Malaysia. The city has a population of ca. 1.5 million inhabitants.

The cool thing about Johor Bahru is that it has a Legoland, but due to bad weather in the morning we did not go, but stayed a day in the hotel and used the pool. It was lovely, but the day after we headed north. Ready for more adventures.

36. Singapore @ Singapore

Then after almost 4 hours we arrived in Singapore.

We found our hotel which was a bit strange.

It was a capsule hostel, which means, that you get you own little "box" where you sleep in.

The box has a mattress, a folding table, a lamp, a tv. and there is a hard curtain so it can get very dark and

you could get a little strange feeling.

After a good night sleep we went on a river cruise. Here we among other learned some facts and a little about the story of Singapore.

The country Singapore consists of the mainland and 63 smaller islets which lies 137 km. north of equator.

Modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles as a trading post of the East India Company. Singapore became British in 1824. Singapore was occupied by the Japanese during World War II, but became British and remained British until it gained independence in 1963.

The first sight for Carina of the hotel "Marina Bay Sands". The hotel we booked 1 night in. Markus been to Singapore before.

The country has about 5.5 million inhabitants and about 74% are foreigners.

The hotel is the 2nd most expensive building in the world.

When we walked around in the city we discovered, that all the red and white balls in the water are balls where random people wrote wishes for year 2015. We wrote wishes on the balls as well.

People who want to have a car in Singapore needs to pay 50000 euros, 56500 dollars or 372000 danish kroner just for the permit and then you need to buy the car.

Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world with a total land area of 682,7 km2. (Denmark is 43 094 km2) This means that Denmark is about 63 times the size of Singapore.

Apart from Monaco, Singapore is the most densely populated country in the world, with 6430 people per km2.

Raffles Hotel is a colonial-style hotel in Singapore. It is named after Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore.

The Singapore Sling was first served i 1915 at the Long Bar of the Raffles Hotel.

We tasted the drink. It was very strong and very expensive. Almost 35 dollar :)

We rewarded ourselves with a beer after a long day of walking.

We visited Gardens By the Bay and the Supertree Grove.

We took this picture when we walked from "our" hotel "Marina Bay Sands" to the garden.

Supertrees are treelike structures ranging from 25 to 50 meters. We went up and walked on the elevated walkway.

Marina Bay Sands was our hotel for a night. The hotel has 3 200 meters tall hotel towers with the "Sands SkyPark" on top. Our room was on the 57th floor facing the Marina Bay and the Singapore Skyline.

The infinity edge pool in the SkyPark. The SkyPark is longer than the Eiffel tower is tall and large enough to park 4,5 A380 jumbo jets.

It was so cool.

We had amazing weather and

an amazing view.

it was a bit hui :) until we saw the edge...

The view when the sun was going down. We just did not have time to stay up in the pool area for long because we had a very very very good dinner buffet waiting.

The view is still amazing.

35. Philippines @ Puntud Island / Virgin Island + Cebu - Oslob + Mactan - Mactan

After the scooter day we wanted a relaxing day.

We went to Pungtud Island also called Virgin Island.

When we left the beach the sun was shining, but about half an hour later when we got to the island it was raining and it did not look like it was going to stop.

But it did.

The island is paradise and has one of the most amazing beaches we have ever seen.

The island is called Virgin Island by the locals and is one of the many islands in the Philippines where a big area of the beach incl. a long white sandbar that extend to the shallow water, sink during high tide and only the palm trees in the middle are visible.

Our boat waiting for us.

At some point another boat came, otherwise we were alone.

Swimming in the clear warm water. Riku is taking pictures with an underwater camera.

We saw many small marine animals...

Also starfishes.

Markus found one too... :)

We had really nice weather after the rain went away.

This is a statue of Padre Pio.

Then it was time to go back to Alona Beach and our hotel.

Inside our boat.

When the weather is good the water is so so clear.

First sight of our beach.

Our part of the beach with our hotel where we stayed the first night. Then we moved hotel to a place a little cheaper, but still very nice. Thanks to Riku for giving us a reason to stay in better hotels...

After spending some days with Riku in the area of Bohol we all went to Oslob on Cebu island.

It took about 5 hours in a little boat to cross the water between the two island. It was horrible and we will never do it again. We had to wake up really early. There were too many people in the local boat. The boat was bad and the engine failed so we had to change to a smaller boat in the middle of rough ocean.

Due to really bad weather we did not get to swim with the Whale Sharks. But next time...

After saying goodbye to Riku, Markus and I went by bus to Mactan Island and more amazing beaches for a couple of days before flying to Singapore.
