29. Philippines @ Luzon - Manila

The next destination was the capital of the Philippines, Manila.

We flew from Taipei in Taiwan to Manila in Philippines.

With approximately 300.000 square kilometers, the Philippines is the 64th largest country in the world and with 100 million people the 7th most populated country in South Asia and the 12th most populated country in the world.

The islands are located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and close to equator, which makes the country prone to typhoons and earthquakes, but also endows it with abundant natural resources and some of the worldst greatest biodiversity.

Manila is the capital of Philippines and has more than 12 million inhabitants and the most densely populated city in the world.

The city center is very very not nice unless you go to the Rizal park in the middle of the city adjacent to the Intramuros, very pleasant and one of the major tourist spots in Manila.

The pigeons also live good here in the park.

The Rizal monument enshrines the remains of the the national hero Jose Rizal. He became a hero known from the Philippines Revolution against the Spanish Kingdom. He was executed the 30st of December 1896.
The declaration of the Philippine Independence from the American Occupation the 4th of July 1946 was held in the park plus other big and important events are hold here.

The Southern entrance of "Intramuros", within the walls. It is the oldest district and the historic core of Manila.

The Manila Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Basilica and is situated within the walls.

"Palacio del Gobernador". The former Governor General's palace and current Commission on Elections headquarters.

The Baroque San Agustin Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

"Intramuros" there are many old houses.

We went to the top of the walls to see the view over the city. This big golf course is in the middle of the city. It looks actually really cool with the tall skyscrapers in the background.

The jeepney's (the local buses) are waiting for customers.

This and the next picture are both taken from the ferry that would take us further on our adventure.
We did not spend long in Manila. We both found the place overcrowded and not a favorite...

Now we had more than 24 hours of sailing before reaching the Island of Palawan.

Markus is enjoying the view from the top deck.

Then it is time to get unpacked in the bunk beds. We got one each in a big air conditioned hall. It was not bad at all.

We all had a life jacket and we all got sheets.... And we both slept quite good.

Most of the time we spent on the decks with a lovely view. There was a bar/restaurant with snacks and drinks and in the night time the boat turned in to be a party boat. We stayed on the deck and listened to the live music and watched the stars and the moon... :) We would do the trip again....
